On his first day in the mayor's office, Zohran Mamdani committed to “reinvent” New York City, declaring “a different age” and an bold start to his administration.

A Historic Figure

The young democratic socialist, who was a relatively obscure state assemblyman, has become the city's first mayor of South Asian descent. He also made history by being the inaugural to be sworn in using the Qur'an.
