The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
