This winter transfer market is always a period of feverish speculation and potential major transfers. Several notable footballers are being linked with moves out of their present clubs. We examine a selection of the top names that might be changing clubs this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the forward in contention, it appears a significant transfer is close. This 25-year-old has a deal featuring a sizeable release clause active for a short period in early January. Latest developments point to the Premier League champions have emerged as his signature. Other suitors such as Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to alternative options, leaving clubs such as Liverpool or Manchester United to make a last-minute bid.

M. Guéhi

The English defender has excel for Crystal Palace this season a summer transfer to Liverpool falling through. With his deal due to expire in the close season, January is the London club's last opportunity to secure a fee for their skipper. A host of top sides, such as City and multiple continental powerhouses including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to hold an interest. However, a winter exit is considered unlikely, particularly given the coach's dependence on the defender.

B. Johnson

The Wales forward has found starting minutes hard to come by at Spurs this campaign. Despite being the club's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has begun just a handful of Premier League games. It is understood the North London club would be open to a transfer for the right price, thought to be in the region of forty million pounds. The Cherries appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an inquiry.

Tottenham value the Welsh international at approximately £40m.

R. Neves

The Portuguese midfielder could be set for a return to the English top flight following a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Now only 28, and with his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he is a possible bargain. Clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United have been connected to the player. Additionally, there have been suggestions from Spain that he is willing to take a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The experienced Germany shot-stopper is now as the third option at Barça following new manager Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and had an operation, a winter departure seems highly probable. Villa were once mentioned as a potential destination, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly showing interest in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This proven England striker has kept scoring frequently in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League could boost his dwindling chances of being in the national squad. But, securing a deal poses major hurdles. Al-Ahli are reluctant to part with him, and his reported huge salary render any move complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been linked as interested parties.

The striker was instrumental as Al-Ahli to a win in the Saudi Super Cup showpiece.

Conor Gallagher

This dynamic English midfielder drew considerable attention in the summer but remained at Atlético. Having few starting appearances in La Liga this season, he may be eager to secure more playing time ahead of the World Cup. United have been heavily linked, and a move back to Crystal Palace, a club he excelled on a temporary deal, is also a possibility, though wage demands might be a problem.

H. Elliott

Despite excelling and being named the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, the talented player has found it tough for minutes on loan at Villa. The manager has stated the loan move won't be made permanent. Because of FIFA regulations regarding playing for multiple teams in a campaign, a return to Liverpool prior to next summer seems to be the sole viable solution.

K. Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkey attacker has been in excellent form for Juventus this season. With his current contract running down, many English sides – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the developments. The Turin club are desperate to secure the youngster to a lengthy agreement but face a race to retain one of Europe's brightest prospects.

K. Smit

This much-admired Dutch midfielder has drawn parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. After starring at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has become a regular in the AZ side. This teenager is heavily tipped to make a major move this month. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing strong rivalry from Real Madrid for a signing valued at approximately £22 million.
