Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could help the team access areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can look forward to finding out which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
